Ancient Olympics History

What is the ancient history of Olympic Games

The ancient Olympics were held in Greece and were the first games to be held since the Roman Empire. The first Olympic Games were held in 776 BCE at Olympia, where they were held every four years until 393 CE.

The games began with a horse race between two chariots, which was followed by foot races and wrestling matches. The event was so popular that it was moved to other cities around the world and evolved into what we know today as the Olympic Games.

                                                Who started ancient Olympic Games

The ancient Olympics were not just a sporting event. They were also an opportunity for the athletes to compete in other competitions, such as wrestling and running.

The ancient Olympics began with a tradition of honoring Zeus with a festival every four years, which was held in Olympia, Greece. The games grew over time and became more competitive, with more people participating.

The Olympics were held all over the world, including on Mount Olympus, where Zeus lived. In fact, it is believed that many of the events that we see today in modern Olympic Games originated during this time period (#Olympic #history).

What are the 5 oldest Olympic sports

The ancient Games included running, long jump, shot put, javelin, boxing, pankration and equestrian events.

What was the most important game in ancient Olympics

The ancient Olympic Games were a series of athletic competitions held every four years in Olympia, Greece. They began in 776 BC and ended with the Roman conquest of Greece in 146 BC.

The first games were held at Olympia by King Pelops of Mycenae, who wanted to honor his father Zeus. The event was held every four years on the feast day of Zeus' son Iphicles (the patron deity of Heracles), which fell on the 14th day ofnee june.

The Greeks held their competitions at a sacred site called Olympia because they believed the gods lived there. The athletes competed nude except for an olive wreath on their heads and wore only sandals made from leather straps attached to their feet.

The Greeks also believed that victory in athletic events was attributable to divine intervention--and so they thought it was appropriate for athletes who won to dedicate their victories to the god who had helped them achieve them.

The people of ancient Greece were very different from us. They had a very different culture and way of life, which was reflected in the games they held.

In the ancient Olympics, there were several different events that were held, including chariot races, foot races, and wrestling competitions. The purpose of these events was to show off how strong and skilled your nation was at fighting or sports.

The Greeks also introduced the concept of "pyrrhic victory" into the games--a victory that comes at too high a cost for one's countrymen or self. If someone wins an event but loses their life in doing so, then they are considered to have achieved a pyrrhic victory; however, if someone wins an event but does not lose their life in doing so (like if they win by forfeit), then they are considered to have won without paying any price for it.
